Wedding Night

I am watching Buffy all over again after a few years' gap and not amazed but definitely thrilled at how well it still holds up. Still funny, still spooky, still relevant.

It's good to hear that Joss Whedon has a new show coming up. It stars Eliza Duchu who played Faith. I have always liked her.

I was also checking out Whedon's entertaining online comic Sugarshock. Within each issue the comic is easy to navigate but finding the next part is fairly difficult. I am including the links to parts 1, 2 and 3 here.

Talking of comics, Chitra Ganesh's new show is opening this week in Chatterjee and Lal, Colaba this week. I would go if I could. I had written about Chitra's Amar Chitra Katha-inspired work here but she has other work just as sensational.

Joss Whedon would love Chitra Ganesh.

Devis with Strips

I was not so excited when they started the strip but now I am very enthusiastic about Brown Girls.

Fly you tears

Day 8 of mindless processing of Mumbai terror news. Headlines, blurbs, edits, rewrites, intros and crashing QuarkXpress pages. No terror so big, no pang so sharp that writing 60 intros can't cure you of it. My best joke this week is too embarrassing to blog (suffice to say that it involves wedding receptions and Black Cats).

The count of friends looking hawkish around the edges so far: 2

Bouts of inexplicable, crazy behaviour by self (counting 1 whole minute of playing imaginary fiddle in front of all the editors): 4

Sometime around midnight I thought I might start wailing aloud over some security analyst's tradespeak. Only lasted a second though.

Meanwhile if you have not met Saad Akhtar so far now is a good time, a very good time.

Waiting for Captain Marvel

(thank you, bitterandrew)

No there is no work ethic left and I don't want to leave this bed.

Ben is in Paris. He promises to wave at me from the plane but here's a better sign of love. He introduced me to Canadian cartoonist Kate Beaton. He defied me not to fall in love. I mere mortal not fall in love with this?

Things I know you would like

I think Stuff White People Like is an incredibly funny site. But it would work just as well if it was called Stuff Yuppies Like.

Today's nice-article-I-wish-I-had-written is The Charms of Wikipedia. Now how can I get Spellcheck to read it?:

The steady influx of top-hat-and-spatted sources elevated Wikipedia's tone. This wasn't just a school encyclopedia, a backyard Encarta—this was drinks at the faculty club. You looked up Diogenes and bang, you got something wondrously finished-sounding from the 1911 Britannica. That became Diogenes' point of departure. And then all kinds of changes happened to the Greek philosopher, over many months and hundreds of revisions—odd theories, prose about the habits of dogs, rewordings, corrections of corrections. Now in Wikipedia there is this summary of Diogenes' provocations:

Diogenes is said to have eaten (and, once, masturbated) in the marketplace, urinated on some people who insulted him, defecated in the theatre, and pointed at people with his middle finger.

And yet amid the modern aggregate, some curvy prose from the 1911 Britannica still survives verbatim:

Both in ancient and in modern times, his personality has appealed strongly to sculptors and to painters.

The fragments from original sources persist like those stony bits of classical buildings incorporated in a medieval wall.

More here on the addictive nature of wikipedia. But as usual the astonishing Randall Munroe says it best.
