Vivian Gornick says that when you live alone in a city you feel "hot with shame, a loneliness that tells you you're a fool and a loser. Everyone else is feasting, you alone cannot gain a seat at the table."
Gornick has cheering things to say about loneliness. I feel better when I think about her but then I think: " You need to remind yourself a Gornick essay to feel better? Tsk"
